Round 1 – with colour 1 yarn, create a magic circle – step-by-step guide and video tutorial on my blog!

Make 8 clusters into the magic circle—instructions below. Make sure you chain 1 between each cluster. Join to the first cluster with a slip stitch. Fasten off.

Cluster = Yarn over your hook, insert the hook into the same stitch, pull through (3 loops on hook). Yarn over, pull through first two loops (2 loops on hook). Yarn over again, inset your hook into the same stitch, yarn over, pull through (4 loops on hook). Yarn over, pull through first two loops (3 loops on hook). Yarn over, pull through all 3 loops. Chain 1.

Top tip! When sewing in your ends—make a knot with the tail end of the magic circle to make sure it doesn’t come loose!

Round 2 – with colour 2 yarn, join to one of the ch1 spaces between clusters.

Make 2 clusters in each chain 1 space around. Make sure you chain 1 between every cluster. Join with a slip stitch to the first cluster. Fasten off.

For the purposes of round 3, each 2 clusters will be called a set of two clusters.

Round 3– with colour 3 yarn, join to one of the ch1 space in the middle of a set of two clusters. You will make two puff stitches in the chain 1 space in the middle of the set of clusters and then 1 puff in between the sets of 2 clusters. See first photo below.

Puff stitch = Yarn over, insert hook, yarn over, (3 loops on hook), yarn over, insert hook, yarn over (5 loops of hook). Yarn over pull through all 5 loops (you may need to do this one loop at a time or wiggle your hook to make sure you pull through all 5 loops). Ch1.

Round 4 – Join colour 4 yarn in a chain 1 space between a 2 puffs.

Chain 3 (counts as dc), in the same space, dc, ch2, 2dc (this makes your first corner). Hdc in the next ch1 space, make 1 sc in each of the next 3 chain 1 spaces. Hdc in the next ch1 space. Make 2dc, ch2, 2dc in the next chain space (second corner).

Hdc in the next ch1 space, make 1 sc in each of the next 3 chain 1 spaces. Hdc in the next ch1 space. Make 2dc, ch2, 2dc in the next chain space. (third corner).

Hdc in the next ch1 space, make 1 sc in each of the next 3 chain 1 spaces. Hdc in the next ch1 space. Make 2dc, ch2, 2dc in the next chain space (fourth corner).

Hdc in next ch1 space, 1sc in each of the next 3 chain 1 spaces. Hdc in the next ch1 space. Slip stitch to join to the top of the first ch3. Fasten off.

Round 5 – Using colour 5, join to the ch2 space in the first corner.

Ch 4 (counts as 1st treble). Tr in the same space (this makes the first half of your first corner).

Dc in each stitch around until you reach the next ch2 corner space. Make 2tr, ch2, 2tr in the ch2 space. Continue to dc around. Repeat until you reach the first ch4 (first half of your first corner). In the same space, 2tr, ch2 and slip stitch to the top of the ch4 to finish your first corner. Fasten off.
