Rainbow pumpkin

Materials

  • Aran weight yarn – 340cm of each colour
  • 5mm hook
  • Darning needle
  • Stuffing
  • Scissors

Abbreviations

  • Hdc = half double crochet
  • Ch = chain

To begin make a magic circle, ch17

Row 1 – starting in the second chain, Hdc across the chain to the last chain, (16hdc). Insert hook into the last chain, yarn over, insert hook into magic circle, yarn over. Slip stitch through both. Ch1, turn

Row 2 – slip stitch into first stitch, back loop Hdc across. Ch1, turn

Change to orange yarn. Join to the back loop of the first stitch.

Row 3 – back loop Hdc across the chain to the last chain, (16hdc). Insert hook into the chain, yarn over, insert hook into magic circle, yarn over. Slip stitch through both. Ch1, turn

Row 4 – slip stitch into first stitch, back loop Hdc across. Ch1, turn

Change to yellow yarn. Join to the back loop of the first stitch.

Repeat rows 3 – 4

Change to green yarn. Join to the back loop of the first stitch.

Repeat rows 3 – 4

Change to blue yarn. Join to the back loop of the first stitch.

Repeat rows 3 – 4

Change to Magenta yarn. Join to the back loop of the first stitch.

Repeat rows 3 – 4

Change to Purple yarn. Join to the back loop of the first stitch.

Repeat rows 3 – 4

To finish, turn your work so that the wrong sides are facing outwards. Starting in the first red chain, insert your hook into the red chain and the back loop of the purple Hdc. Slip stitch through both. Continue to the end of the row. Finish off leaving a long tail for sewing. Turn work the right way around and pull the magic circle closed.

Stuff your pumpkin and sew around the top as shown in the photo below. Pull tight to close.

You will now sew through the centre of the pumpkin to get the dimple in the top.

Pop a cinnamon stick or a little stick in the top to finish!
