The Daisy granny square tote bag is one of my all time favourites! It is made up of 13 granny squares, sewn together and with a single crochet shoulder strap.

Materials
- 5mm crochet hook
- Aran weight cotton yarn (I’ve used Yarn and Colours Epic in Birch, White and Mustard) from Lovecrafts!
- Scissors
- Darning needle to weave in your ends
Abbreviations – US terms

- Chain = ch
- Single crochet = sc
- Double crochet = dc
- Treble crochet = tr

Instructions
Round 1 – with first colour yarn, create a magic circle (step by step guide on my blog).
Ch2, make 11 dc into the circle. Join to the first stitch with a slip stitch and pull the tail tight to close the circle. Break yarn and fasten off.
Round 2 – with second colour yarn, join to the first dc and ch1. You will make a cluster into each stitch around. Follow instructions below.
4dc cluster = Yarn over your hook, insert the hook into the same stitch, pull through (3 loops on hook). Yarn over, pull through first two loops (2 loops on hook). Yarn over again, inset your hook into the same stitch, yarn over, pull through (4 loops on hook). Yarn over, pull through first two loops (3 loops on hook). Yarn over again, insert your hook into the same stitch, yarn over, pull through (5 loops on hook). Yarn over, pull through first two loops (4 loops on hook). Yarn over again, inset your hook into the same stitch, yarn over, pull through (6 loops on hook). Yarn over, pull through first two loops (5 loops on hook). Yarn over pull through all 5 loops. Chain 1.
Repeat 11 more times in each stitch around until you have 12 4dc clusters. When you have made your final cluster, chain 1 and join with a slip stitch to the first cluster. Break yarn and fasten off.
Round 3: with outer colour yarn, join to the chain 1 space in between two petals.
Ch3, make 2 dc into the same space (counts as 3dc).
Make 3 dc into the next ch1 space (between petals)
Make 2 tr crochet, ch2, 2 tr crochet into the next ch1 space – this will make your first corner
Make 3dc in each of the next two ch1 spaces.
2 tr, ch2, 2 tr in the next ch1 space (2nd corner)
Make 3dc in each of the next two ch1 spaces.
2 tr, ch2, 2 tr in the next ch1 space (3rd corner)
Make 3dc in each of the next two ch1 spaces.
2 tr, ch2, 2 tr in the last ch1 space (4th corner)
Join to top of ch3 in first chain 1 space with a slip stitch.
Round 4: continue in outer colour yarn. Ch3 (counts as dc). Dc in each stitch around until you reach the corner. 3dc into the corner ch2 space. Repeat around. Join to top of first ch3. Fasten off with invisible join.
Assembling your bag
Sew the granny squares together in the layout shown above. The bottom square and the middle edge squares will fold to join the back of the bag as shown in the photo.
Joining the handle
Round 1: join yarn to one of the granny squares on the side of the bag. Sc in each stitch until you reach the top point of the bag. Sc into the third dc of the 3dc from the previous round and place a marker on this stitch . Sc around until the top point of the next square. Sc into the first dc of the 3dc from the previous round and place a marker on this stitch. Repeat around the other side of the bag. Join to first sc. chain 1.
Round 2: *Sc into the back loop of each sc around until you reach the marked stitch. Sc into this stitch. Chain 55. Skip the stitches in the middle and sc into the next marked stitch on the next peak* Repeat from * to * back loop sc into the remaining stitches. Join to first sc. chain 1.
For a longer/crossbody strap chain approximately 120 (you can measure this as you go to make sure it’s the right length)
Round 3: *Back loop sc into each stitch around until you reach the chain 55. Sc into the stitch at the base of the chain and in each stitch of the chain, sc at the base of the chain on the other side* back loop sc around. Repeat from * to *. Join to first sc. chain 1.
Round 4-5: Back loop sc in each stitch around. Joining to the first sc and chaining 1. On the last round join with an invisible join and fasten off. Weave in your ends.
