Christmas tree cardigan pattern

Christmas is fast approaching so why not start preparing by making this cute Christmas tree cardigan for a little loved one!

Ribbing

Row 1 – Begin by working up the side of the cardigan, ch3 to begin, work 1 dc in the side of each row until you reach the top. You will now work across the top of the cardigan into the back of your initial starting chain. Work 3 sc in the first ch, dc in each chain across until the last ch, 3sc in the last ch.

Dc in the side of each row down the side of the cardigan. Dc in each stitch on the bottom of the cardigan, slip stitch to the top of the ch3. Ch3, turn.

Row 2 – *Fpdc in the next dc (not the ch3) , bpdc in the next dc*. Repeat until you reach the 3sc in the corner. Sc in the first sc, 3sc in the middle sc, sc in the next sc. *Fpdc in the next dc, bpdc in the next stitch*. Repeat until the next 3sc in the corner. Sc in the first sc, 3sc in the middle sc, sc in the next sc. *Fpdc in the next dc, bpdc in the next stitch*. Repeat around. Slip stitch to the top of the first ch3. Ch3, turn

Row 3 – *Bpdc in the next dc, fpdc in the next dc*. Repeat until you reach the 3sc in the corner. Sc in the first two sc, 3sc in the middle sc, sc in the next two sc. *Bpdc in the next dc, fpdc in the next stitch*. Repeat until the next 3sc in the corner. Sc in the first two sc, 3sc in the middle sc, sc in the next two sc. *Bpdc in the next dc, fpdc in the next stitch*. Repeat around. Slip stitch to the top of the first ch3. Finish off.

Sleeves

Row 1 – Join yarn to the centre under the arm hole. Ch1, hdc in the same space, hdc into the cardigan under the arm coming up to your skipped stitches that make the arm hole. Hdc in each of the skipped stitches around, hdc in the side of the other side under the arm, slip stitch to first hdc, ch1, turn. (26)

Note – You will have five stitches into the body of the cardigan where the sleeve meets the body and then hdc in each stitch around.

Rows 2 – 12 – Hdc in each stitch around, slip stitch to join. Ch1, turn

Sleeve ribbing

Row 1 – Join yarn to any stitch, ch3 (this will act as your first dc but you will not work your fpdc or bpdc into it in the next round. Dc in each stitch around. Slip stitch to join to the top of the ch3. Ch3, turn. (26 stitches).

Row 2 – *Fpdc in the next dc (not the ch3), bpdc in the next dc*. Repeat around. Slip stitch to join to the top of the starting ch3. Ch3, turn.

Row 3 – *Fpdc in the next dc (not the ch3), bpdc in the next dc*. Repeat around. Slip stitch to join to the top of the starting ch3. Finish off.
